What You’ll Need to Seal a Marble Vanity Top

  • Impregnating stone sealer

  • Applicator: Paint brush or clean lint-free cloth

  • Paper towel
  • Vinyl or nitrile disposable gloves

  • Safety glasses

  • Good ventilation (open a window).

  • PPE specified by product.

1. Safety First

  • Wear disposable gloves and eye protection

  • Keep the room well ventilated

  • Keep the sealer away from all other surfaces

⚠️ Important: The sealer can permanently mark or harden on wood, paint, fabrics, plastics, and furnishings.

2. Make Sure the Marble Is Dry

  • The marble must be completely clean and fully dry

  • After cleaning, leave it to dry for at least 24 hours

  • Do not seal damp stone — this can cause marks or cloudiness

3. Protect Surroundings

  • Remove all items from the vanity

  • Protect taps, cabinets, walls, mirrors, and floors

  • Do not allow the sealer to touch anything except the marble

4. Apply the Sealer

  1. Put on your gloves

  2. Lightly dampen the applicator with the sealer

  3. Wipe the sealer evenly over the marble

  4. Make sure the whole surface is covered

  5. After a few minutes (follow the sealer instructions), wipe away any excess with the paper towel

⚠️ Do not let puddles of sealer dry on the surface.

5. Leave It Alone

  • Do not touch the marble for at least 12 hours

  • Do not place items on it

  • Keep it dry for 48 hours and do not clean it during this time

This allows the sealer to cure properly.

6. Dispose of Materials

  • Throw away:

    • The cloth used to apply the sealer

    • The disposable gloves

⚠️ Do not reuse them — leftover sealer can harden and damage other surfaces.

Wash your hands after removing gloves.

How Often Should Marble Be Sealed?

Time

  • Typically every 12 months for a bathroom vanity

  • High-use bathrooms may need sealing every 6–9 months

Simple Test

  • Place a few drops of water on the marble

  • Leave for 5–10 minutes

  • If the stone darkens, it’s time to reseal

  • If the water beads and does not soak in, the seal is still working

Ongoing Care Tips

  • Clean with pH-neutral stone cleaner

  • Avoid acidic products (vinegar, bleach, limescale removers)

  • Wipe up spills promptly
